This was the environmental project I had done in Keelung, Taiwan in June, 2016, which was supported by the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology (NMMST) and curated by Jane Ingram Allen. This was my first environmental project, and it’s international so there were the other artists from different countries to build their artworks. I was the Taiwanese one.
My artwork is an array of marine creature god statues set at the site near the NMMST train station. The bamboos, a recycled fishing net and reeds were adopted to build the structure, and mud, dry reeds, glutinous rice and black sugar were mixed to shape the body of the statues. The whole artwork is an outdoor sculpture being displayed at the site until it is decayed by natural forces. A potential change itself I expected for my work is to have plants growing and blossoming on the statutes. Let’s keep tracking.
